The DeLorean featured in the movie "Back to the Future"
Description
An account of the resource
Above is the time machine used in "Back to the Future", a retrofitted DeLorean DMC-12. Early on, the DMC-12 was marketed as an inexpensive sports car, unfortunately for DeLorean however, the number of presales for the car gave them the idea to hike their original 12k pricepoint up to almost double(Far beyond what the car is actually worth). Funnily enough, the inclusion of the DeLorean into "Back to the Future" is one of the primary reasons the car is still in popular culture today. While received as merely unremarkable in its time, it has been remembered by many car enthusiasts as cheaply made and much slower than their high-performance sports counterparts. Of course, the base model of the car wasn't fitted with Doc Brown's Flux Capacitor and other fictitious sci-fi inventions and could only reach speeds of around 60 mph after 10 seconds.

A home gaming console popular in the early 1980's
Description
An account of the resource
The posterchild for the second generation of home video game consoles, the Atari 2600 helped introduce interchangeable cartridge-based consoles to American households, replacing from fixed single-game devices. Originally released in 1977, the 2600 saw great financial success in the early 1980's, releasing two design revisions by 1982. However, due to an influx of poor quality third party titles and poor licensing decisions, Atari contributed to their own downfall in the Great Video Game Crash of 1983, marking a definite end to most consoles at the time.

Description
An account of the resource
<span style="font-weight:400;">This image is of Jon Bon Jovi and Richie Sambora performing at a concert wearing an American Flag as a cape with a crop top and pants with animal print and leather material. The band Bon Jovi had an interesting style when they first emerged in 1983. One of the band’s songs, “Runaway” gave the band a glimpse at fame with their unique keyboard-heavy rock style. This band is associated with the genre of Pop Metal, pop-influenced hooks, and guitar riffs. Pop Metal was influenced by the early 1970s fashion of Glam Metal ( Hair Metal). Bon Jovi became a significant force in the Pop Metal genre due to their creation of powerful ballads, guitar riffs, and interesting melodies. Their music influenced other artists of the 1980s and has had a lasting impact on modern rock music today. Bon Jovi music has maintained prevalence on modern radio stations due to its massive popularity and influence. Bon Jovi also became popular due to their short clips of film during a concert or their music videos which eventually told a story. The hyperlink below is an example of one of their music videos. Another example of this growing popularity of music videos and storytelling is Michael Jacksons' video Thriller. </span>

Description
An account of the resource
A landscape shot from the 1982 cult-classic Blade Runner. The movie takes place in an imagined Los Angeles in the year 2019. The movie is known for its distinct aesthetic, and the introduction of cyberpunk themes to broader markets. Beyond this, the film elevates the genre by revolving around the questions of sentience. The moment when the protagonist wins in the movie comes after the viewer has experienced the problems plaguing their world, and has come to sympathize with the main villain. There's also a pretty satisfying twist.

<p><span style="font-weight:400;">The picture is of a 1988 Discman made by Sony a few years after they made the Walkman. The Discman was just like the Walkman only it could play CDs. CDs first came out in 1982 and quickly became popular due to their slimmer appearance and easier to carry around. The Walkman and vinyl did not have good quality music which was one of the reasons CDs became popular in the ’80s. CDs produced a higher quality sound and helped musicians and artists explain music was more than notes and lyrics. With easy storage and better quality of sound, CDs quickly overtook the music industry. CDs are still used today and many people have CD players in their cars and houses and listen to music through them and have also paved the way for digital music libraries.</span></p>

A photo of director David Lynch seen shooting Wild at Heart, a 1990 movie starring Laura Dern and Nicholas Cage...Which is all that will be said regarding that film. While Lynch's presence as a household name today comes from his episodic Twin Peaks, his career was brought to the center stage after the 1986 release of Blue Velvet. The film paints a surreal gritty picture of 80's suburban American culture. This challenge of the status quo was was relatively new to many audiences and earned it high acclaim amongst critics.

<span style="font-weight:400;">The image shows a 1980s keyboard that was used to make digital beats found in popular 80s music from bands like Bon Jovi, ZZ Top, Led Zeppelin, and Elton John. The Digital Sound Revolution was a shift away from mechanical technology to digital electronics such as the keyboard that was one of the most popular items used in music. This was the golden age for new music and the use of synthesizers. The keyboard had a wide range of sounds and could mock real instruments. This influenced modern music and how it is produced today, music today sounds digital with the use of synthesizers and other technological advancements made from the Digital Sound Revolutio. </span>

A shot of the computer-generated spaceship from "The Last Starfighter"
Description
An account of the resource
The 80s saw the emergence of computer-generated imagery(CGI) within films. The first of which to feature large amounts of CGI scenes being <a href="https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0084827/">"Tron"</a>(1982), a movie perhaps more widely known for the arcade-cabinet game of the same name. Tron has a whopping <a href="https://ohiostate.pressbooks.pub/graphicshistory/chapter/14-3-tron/#:~:text=The%20production%20of%20Tron%20marked,that%20utilize%20computer-generated%20backgrounds." target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">15 minutes</a> of computer-generated sequences and is also one of the earliest examples of superimposing actors over CGI layers and backgrounds. The shot above is from Nick Castle's "<a href="https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0087597/">The Last Starfighter</a>", another prime example of directors utilizing CGI assets in lieu of complex and expensive set pieces.
