Subject

A shot of the computer-generated spaceship from "The Last Starfighter"

Description

The 80s saw the emergence of computer-generated imagery(CGI) within films. The first of which to feature large amounts of CGI scenes being "Tron"(1982), a movie perhaps more widely known for the arcade-cabinet game of the same name. Tron has a whopping 15 minutes of computer-generated sequences and is also one of the earliest examples of superimposing actors over CGI layers and backgrounds. The shot above is from Nick Castle's "The Last Starfighter", another prime example of directors utilizing CGI assets in lieu of complex and expensive set pieces.
